The Globe Chaser.....

Here's ANOTHER WIP, which is using a more "hyper-detailed, pen and ink/crosshatch" approach which I really enjoy doing, and is influenced by some of my favorite artists like Ian Miller (see link on the right), Bernie Wrightson, Gustav Dore, Arthur Rackham, Hieronymous Bosch, Peter Breughel the Elder, and Albrecht Durer. I think I just like making lines, so I want to try to do more of my personal work in this style.... let me know what you think.

Hey Sean! This is by far one of my favorite pieces. Reminds me of some of the old school b&w children book illustrations. The composition is fun but I think the colors will pull this together in the end. Hope to see this one polished up soon.

Very very fun! It makes ME think of the line art kid's covers that Scott Fischer does, especially with how he balances color, rendering, and his pen & ink:

or just go to the source:

Other than wishing the line art separated foreground and background elements more (smaller, lighter lines in the background), I say lemme see more!

Great sketch! - I agree - line art can do things that paint can't - the mesmerizing surface created by all those engravers lines! I think it suits your character designs - there's stuff going on in these characters that might not look the same in a literal rendering. Line is more open to interpretation than some painting....that being said, i do like your looser digital paints too - personally I'm combining - just using more colored line in my paintings....so anyway, i dig this stuff, but am still making my own mind up about paint'n vs draw'n ... you might just have to do everything twice! ahahah!

Kenji - Thanks!I love that old stuff. You should check out Arthur Rackham, he rocks.

Andy - Thanks muchly. I know what you mean about separating the FG/BG. I am working that out, trying to figure out how to most effectively do that in the digital medium. Fischers pen and ink work is very cool indeed, thanks for the link.

Marc- Leave it to you to suggest I do everything twice. That's almost crazy enough to be a great idea.
