Doing more sketches in a horizontal / film-aspect ratio format. I noticed that I almost always impulsively start my work / sketches with a very similar vertical rectangle. I think making some of my pieces look like little scenes from a (for now) non-existent film is kind of a neat idea. What do you think?
I am also going to be concentrating a lot more on environments as the main subject matters of my pieces, with figures occupying the space and providing a frame of reference instead of being the main focus.
Thanks for checking them out!
the first one is a notable change of your style work! sean, do you use canson sketchbook? ... You take pictures of the drawings or you scan it?
ReplyDelete- Alejandro Pineda
That's kind of an exciting direction for you. I'm looking forward to where this goes!
ReplyDeleteAlejandro - Yes, Canson sketchbook with a .3 lead mechanical pencil (B leads). I scan them.
ReplyDeleteBen - thanks! Yeah, I am lso partally trying to visualize some stuff that is part of a larger scale thing, but I also want to be able to create stand-alone images that tell a story on their own. I have always loved film and movies so I want to start using them as inspiration for the framing, lighting and atmosphere.
I'm a ridiculously huge fan of your pencil work and sketches. I like your idea behind mixing things up a bit, especially if you want to try to pull inspiration from cinema.
ReplyDeleteHope to see one really come to life and meet your own expectations. =)
Really inspiring post. Especially the landscapes. Its interesting that your tendency is to work from a portrait format, whereas i naturally go straight for landscape every time. I guess its because you do so many characters? Anyway, I really like these sketches. Hope to see more like it :)
ReplyDeleteOctochariot! Being sold along with robo-elephant from the Ramayana group.
ReplyDeleteThese look awesome. Especially love the landscape thumbs. :)
Great developmental sketch work! What do you plan on doing with these pieces? Create large scale renderings?
ReplyDeleteKelley - THank you!
ReplyDeleteFinn - Probably. I love characters, don't get me wrong, but I think sometimes we miss so many other neat stuff when weonly focus on characetrs. Thanks!
Sam - THanks!
Lloyd - That's the plan.I want to do a bunch of these first though before I decide which ones to do. Thanks for stopping by!
