Spent a long weekend at my family's vacation house on the Chesapeake Bay. It's located in an area that has a long fishing industry history, and there are all these crazy looking fish-processing factories, as well as the ruins of older ones, hence the the sketch below.
I really love drawing factories and industrial stuff. I realized that it's even more fun to do without any reference at all, just doing it based on memory and speculation. This is something I do now and then, and want to start doing more: memory life-drawing.
I did it when I went on a trip to Ireland, we were in this ebus and wizzing by all these beautiful scenes so I had to try to take a mental snap-shot then draw what I remember afterwards. It's fun, try it sometime!
In other news, I will be attending the San Diego Comic-Con this week on Thursday and Friday, so if you see a weird, bearded dude with a crazy look in his eyes, it is probably me, so say HI, won't you?
I will only be there as an observer, BUT, in late August, I will have a table in the Artist's Alley at the BALTIMORE Comic-Con, where you might also catch a glimpse of my very famous co-worker (and the executive art director of 38 Studios) Todd McFarlane!
Also, more progress on this drawing:
Great stuff as usual! Btw is it YOUR game that 38 is presenting Thursday at the Con? ^ ^
ReplyDeleteOh! ..didn't see that you'll be there...Let's meet up!
ReplyDeleteHey Josh! Yeah man, let's do that! E-mail me your phone number: sean@seanandrewmurray.com. See you there!
ReplyDeleteReally wonderful sketches - the factory sketch blows me away - love your feel for architecture and environments.
ReplyDeleteNice entry. That wizards piece is looking sharp. I love the wizard with the skull...I mean, the one who's skull is showing, haha.
ReplyDeleteI have never been able to make it out to the San Diego Con but I hope to run into you at the Baltimore con this year! Always a good time.
Great post. I really enjoy looking at your sketches. Very inspiring!
ReplyDeleteTHanks everyone! Ben - see you there!
ReplyDeleteSean! Very excited to hear that you'll be at the Baltimore Con!! I'm getting a bit overwhelmed at all of the great artists that will be there. Definitely will be stopping by your table. Thanks for the update!
ReplyDeleteWondering where you got your inspiration for the clothing in the Wizard Meet sketch? Kind of cool how it looks like the the three guys on the right are "together" meeting up with a duo from afar...at least that's where my mind goes anyway. I wanna know what's in that fish man's box! LOL!
the wizard meeting one is awesome. tells a whole story in my head :)
ReplyDeleteLove your Sketch style!
